Monroe County Girls' sports festival August 6

The 8th annual Monroe County Girls' Sports Festival, presented by Frontier, will be held on Saturday, August 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ESL Sports Centre at Monroe Community College. The festival is sponsored in part by the Monroe County Sports Development Corporation.

The Monroe County Girls' Sports Festival is a one-day event for girls between the ages of 8 and 14. Participants are able to gain hands-on knowledge of sports in a non-competitive setting. No experience is necessary. Last year, about 400 girls participated in the festival.

The event is open to girls who live in or outside of Monroe County. It is also open to girls with physical disabilities - several of the sports are adapted.

Registration forms are available at the ESL Sports Centre, on-line at www.monroecountysports.org or by calling Monroe County Sports Development at 585-262-3832. The registration fee is $15 and includes participation in five sports, lunch, a goodie bag and t-shirt. The registration deadline is Wednesday, August 3.

Girls can participate in five out of the 18 sports clinics included in this year's festival. All clinics are hosted by local sports organizations and volunteer athletes. Sports include:
