Ceremony planned to honor Sweden resident

G. Spencer Terry was a near life-long resident of the Brockport community. He served with the US Army 74th Engineers in Europe during World War II. Upon his return, he attended the University of Rochester, graduating with the Class of 1949. Terry continued his career in the family business as a partner in the George S. Terry Company, a farm supplies and fertilizer company.

Prior to his death in February 2003 at the age of 85, Terry made a significant monetary contribution to the Town of Sweden to benefit recreational opportunities in the community, according to town officials. The gift was used to help start the town's first full-time, year-round recreation program. Terry's generosity also benefited other local organizations.

On August 5, at a ceremony to unveil a plaque in Terry's honor, Sweden Supervisor Nat O. Lester, III will say a few words about Terry's generosity. Terry's son, Jon, will also speak.
