Clarkson University has awarded the Gleason Foundation Sponsored Scholarship to Bradley Povelaites, son of Charles and Margaret Povelaites of Whittier Road, Rochester. Povelaites is currently a junior studying abroad this semester at Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand.


Student pianists from the studio of Barbara Woods in Spencerport performed in the New York Federation of Music Clubs Festival in February. All students earned superior ratings and received national honor certificates. The students are: Alison MacKenzie, Nathan Wolski, Nathaniel Heale, Kristen McCannon, Steven Burek, Abby Blakely, Andrew Callan, Marissa Wimer, Katherine Wimer, Marisa Benson, Caitlyn Keery, Shauna Brongo, Nicole Moran, Alicia Joerger, Jaime Clare, Jenna Callan, Andrew Liu, Tyler Davis, Raymond Manioci, David D'Angelo, Olivia D'Angelo, Jared Meagher, Michael Yodice, Shelby Lee, Ryan Davis, Julia Fuino, Allison D'Angelo, Sophia Avery and Diana Keery.

Gold Cup trophies for earning three years of Superior ratings were awarded to Jenna Callan, Jaime Clare, David D'Angelo, Olivia D'Angelo, Tyler Davis, Alicia Joerger, Andrew Liu, Jared Meagher, Raymond Manioci and Nicole Moran.

Second Gold Cups for earning six years of Superior ratings went to Drew Callan and Abby Blakely. A third Gold Cup for earning nine years of Superior ratings was awarded to Kristen McCannon.

Three students performed in the District Seven Senior Trophy Festival and earned the Noteworthy Achievers Senior Trophy. They are: Melissa Heale, Brittany Solt and Jennie Trenton.


Robert Malnati, 63, formerly of the Spencerport area, won silver and bronze medals at the 2005 Pennsylvania Senior Games held July 13 to 17 at Shippensburg University, Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Malnati competed in the singles (silver) and doubles (bronze) tennis competition.

Malnati was employed by Spencerport Central School from 1970 to 1997. He taught physical education, coached basketball, golf, baseball and tennis. The last seven years of employment he was the kindergarten through grade 12 technology coordinator.


Gray Certified Public Accounting, PC, announces the appointment of Nicole Zanni, of Hilton, as administrative assistant and communications director. In her role, Zanni will process financial statements and tax returns. She bring three years experience as a banking paralegal, having previously worked for Bodman LLP in Detroit, Michigan.


Andrew J. Meyers of Churchville has graduated summa cum laude from Hope College, Holland, Michigan.


Hartwick College senior Brandon M. Arva, of Spencerport, son of Bruce H. Arva and the late Pamela M. Arva, has been named to the spring term dean's list at Hartwick. Arva is majoring in Music Education.


Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has announced the winner of the Rensselaer Medal. Gregory Strabel of Brockport is this year's honoree at Brockport High School.


Jamie Duff of Brockport was named to the spring 2005 dean's list at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts.


The following students, enrolled in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, were named to the dean's list for the spring 2005 semester. Lauren Mars of Rochester and Christopher Page of Rochester.


Chad Hage of Brockport was named to the spring 2005 dean's list at Syracuse University's School of Management.


Brendan James Gaesser, son of Amy Hegeman Gaesser and James Gaesser of Kendall, was named to the spring 2005 dean's list at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. He is majoring in psychology.


Marine Corps Reserve Sgt. Duane L. Paquin, a 1993 graduate of Spencerport High School, and the reserve Marines of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines, 4th Marine Division, homebased in Madison, Wisconsin, returned home from a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Paquin's unit's primary mission is to locate, close with and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver, or to repel their assault by fire and close combat. Additionally, the battalion is prepared to augment and reinforce the active Marine forces in case of national emergency.

Paquin joined the Marine Corps Reserve in September 1993.
