No change in Spencerport school tax rate

Property owners in the Spencerport Central School District will see a zero percent tax rate increase in their school tax bills this fall. The district Board of Education approved a tax rate of $24.58 per $1,000 of assessed value, the same rate as in 2004.

"This is good news for our community. We have balanced the needs of our children with responsibility to our taxpayers," said Board President David Dorofy.

When the school budget was proposed in May, the district anticipated a 2.1 percent tax rate increase or $25.10 per $1,000 in assessed value.

The tax levy, the total amount needed to be raised through property taxes, is $28,980,000. The tax rates are as follows (with last year's rate in parentheses): Ogden $24.58 ($24.58); Parma, $24.58 ($24.58); Greece, $26.72 ($25.61) and Gates, $25.88 ($24.88). The Greece and Gates tax rates are higher because the towns are not at 100 percent assessed value. Greece has an equalization rate of 92 percent and Gates is at 95 percent this year.

Some property owners will see a tax bill that increases because of property improvements and reassessments. This is the second year that tax rates have remained the same or declined.
