Lunch prices increase in Spencerport schools

Increased costs and reduced federal food commodities to schools are the causes for a school lunch rate increase in the Spencerport Central School District. The price will rise by 10 cents for the 2005-06 school year.

School lunch prices will increase from $1.75 to $1.85 for the elementary schools and from $1.90 to $2 for middle and high school. Reduced price breakfasts and lunches remain at 25 cents. Breakfast prices are unchanged at $1. Milk prices will be 50 cents, the same as last year.

Denise Kelley, food services director, said that the district has been offering more healthy food choices, which are more expensive. The district has been promoting a "Choose Sensibly" program to encourage students to select healthy food and beverages.
