Rochester lawyer appointed
chairman of SUNY Brockport college council

Scott M. Turner was appointed to serve as the chairman of the SUNY Brockport College Council by NYS Governor George Pataki.

Turner has served on the SUNY Brockport College Council since 1997. He also serves as a trustee of Unity Health System and the Rochester Historical Society. He has been practicing environmental law at Nixon Peabody, LLP, in Rochester for 32 years. In 2004 and 2005, Turner was listed as a leading lawyer in environmental law in Chambers and Partners' USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers. Turner graduated magna cum laude from Washington & Lee University and is an honors graduate of Colgate University.

His wife, Mary Worboys-Turner, is the chairperson of the Brockport College Foundation, which offers scholarships to high achieving Brockport students.

The Turners reside in Churchville.

Members of the College Council are responsible for maintaining the high standards of the college, while improving its strength. The College Council consists of nine members appointed by the governor, serving staggered seven-year terms, and one student elected yearly by the student body. The College Council reviews all major plans of the college including plans for appraisal or improvement of faculty and other personnel; expansion of institutional plants; and appraisal or improvement of student activities and housing.
