Bill Wolff, of Rochester, an adjunct lecturer at the State University of New York at Brockport, has been awarded a prestigious MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Japanese Government Research Award to study and create sculpture as a post-graduate research scholar at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, beginning in October. Wolff will be studying Japanese woodworking and sculpture with artist Takashi Fukai. The 18-month award also includes funding for intensive Japanese language study.


Laurel A. McNall, a 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School and a 2001 graduate of Canisius College, recently completed her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York. Her dissertation won the 2005 Graduate Student Scholarship Award from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychologists. McNall is employed as a consultant at The Group for Organizational Effectiveness, Inc. in Albany.


Brandon M. Arva, of Spencerport, son of Bruce H. Arva and the late Pamela M. Arva, has graduated cum laude from Hartwick College with a bachelor of science degree in music education.

At Hartwick, he participated in Music Educators National Conference, National Anthem Singers, Phi Mu Alpha and Circle K.


Margaret M. Bartlett, daughter of Patricia and Philip Bartlett of Brockport and a graduate of Hilton High School, has been awarded the Eric M. Steel Award for International Study from SUNY Brockport.


Curtis Amesbury of Rochester, an associate broker for Prudential Real Estate Affiliates, received a Prudential CARES Volunteer Grants Award of $250 for the Monroe County Library System to benefit the Chili Public Library.

Amesbury dedicated 44 hours of time editing the library's newsletter and coordinating fundraising and recycling programs.


Robin Lauth of Hamlin, an administrative assistant for Prudential Real Estate Affiliates, received a Prudential CARES Volunteer Grants Award of $250 for the Brockport Cheerleading Boosters. Lauth volunteered 80 hours of time to the Brockport cheerleaders as their committee secretary.


Air Force Cadet John P. Ayers participated in Operation Air Force at a forward deployed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The cadet is currently attending the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Ayers is a 2002 graduate of Hilton High School.


Petty Officer 2nd Class Daniel S. Anderson, son of Pastor Mark and Cindy Anderson of Bergen, returned from the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Harry S. Truman. Anderson is a nuclear electrician and provides electrical support on the ship's nuclear reactors.

The USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) Carrier Strike Group concluded operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and maritime security operations (MSO) March 19, after being relieved by the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Carrier Strike Group in the Persian Gulf. Truman and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3 launched 2,577 sorties, totaling nearly 13,000 flight hours, in support of OIF and MSO since relieving USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) November 20. The Truman is currently in home port, Norfolk, Virginia, standing by should deployment to the Persian Gulf be required again.

EM 2 Anderson joined the Navy in July 2002, upon graduation from Byron-Bergen Central School. While serving in the Navy, Anderson plans to begin pursing a degree in music education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia in the fall of 2005.

Anderson's brother, O/C Aaron M. Anderson, also serves in the U.S. Navy, is also stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and is currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering at Old Dominion University.
