Financial aid still available at GCC

As Genesee Community College nears the start of the fall 2005 semester, numerous financial aid opportunities still remain for eligible students.

Students have to take the first step by filling out the FAFSA form online at any one of Genesee's six campus locations, at home or at any computer with Internet access, such as those in most public libraries. The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Aid, is an easy-to-follow online application requiring basic information about the student and his or her family income last year. (www.fafsa.ed.gov/) This application creates a baseline for financial need and eligibility that is reviewed by most funding sources such as New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and many scholarship programs.

With fall classes starting on August 29 students are encouraged to apply immediately. GCC has the following five Instant admit dates scheduled at all the college's six campus locations in Albion, Arcade, Batavia, Dansville, Lakeville and Warsaw: Wednesday, August 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, August 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, August 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students should bring high school diploma or equivalent. In applying for financial aid, independent students should bring a copy of their 2004 federal tax return (if filed) and W-2 form(s), while students still dependent on their parents will need to bring a copy of their parents' 2004 federal tax return (if filed) and W-2 form(s).
