Hilton resident
receives gold medal

Hilton resident Colleen Corcoran wears a gold medal she won as a member of the Cadets, a drum and bugle corps team based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The group, featuring student members (ages 15-21) from high school and college from all over the country competed in the Drum Corps International meet in Foxboro Stadium, outside of Boston, Massachusetts from August 9-13. The group swept all the categories, scoring a phenomenal 99.15 points, the highest ever for a drum and bugle corps team. The competition will be aired on ESPN2 on September 6. Colleen, a junior this fall at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, plays first trumpet in the organization. She is a music education major and spent six years playing and marching with the Hilton Cadets Marching Band, graduating from Hilton High School in 2003. According to Colleen, the Cadets practice 30 hours over a weekend, once a month, in the winter. This fall they will have a weekend of practice and perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. In early May they have a three week camp for practicing and on June 1 they go on the road, practicing every day and performing frequently until the final competition in August.
