Greece receives grants for trees

The Town of Greece will be receiving $10,000 from the DEC Urban Forestry Grant Program. The town was one of only 17 communities in New York state which were fortunate to receive grants ranging from $3,500 to $10,000.

The town will be applying the funding toward the replacement of 130 trees that are slated for removal. The trees consist of six different species that were damaged in a severe windstorm. A hazard survey identified the trees that are too damaged to be saved or pose a potential hazard to the public. The town will be supplying the labor, equipment and materials necessary for planting the trees.

The notification of the receipt of this grant money was made by Acting NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Denise Sheeban and announced by State Assemblyman Bill Reilich (Greece, Ogden, Sweden).
