The Morton Fire Company has been awarded a $450 grant from the First Responders Institute, a not-for-profit organization based in Maryland that annually awards more than 100 grants to emergency providers. more

Rising costs, slow revenue growth and
more reliance on debt shown in local governments

Although many local governments are in stable financial condition, overall costs continue to increase at nearly twice the rate of inflation, while local revenue growth has been slow and reliance on new debt has grown substantially, according to a report issued by State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi. more

Spencerport residents volunteer
at children's home in Peru

Spencerport residents Peter Schmidt and Terri Spitz-Schmidt and 16 other individuals spent two weeks in late July and early August volunteering on child care and construction projects at Puericultorio Perez Aranibar (PPA), a children's home housing 500 youths. more

Ogden Library goes wireless
Broadband wireless Internet service is now available in the Ogden Farmers' Library building at 269 Ogden Center Road. Library Trustee Corinne Goeke, a former software engineer, installed the wireless hotspot in the library on September 13, making it possible for users with wireless capable devices such as laptop computers, PDAs and cell phones, to access the Internet from all areas of the library. more

Owens Illinois employees reunion planned
A 20 year reunion of Owens Illinois Brockport former employees will be held at the American Legion Post 35, 131 South Main Street, Albion, on Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m. (dinner 2 p.m.) Tickets are $18, paid reservations are due by September 30. more

Cadette Girl Scout Troop 479 of Spencerport sent 30 fleece quilts to the evacuees of Hurricane Katrina. more

Not all of the votes have been counted yet in the Town of Riga primary but preliminary counts show incumbent Supervisor Tim Rowe garnered 417 votes compared to board member Pamela Moore who received 411. more

Baton & Flag Twirling - Intro to Baton basic courses are presently offered during the fall session only. Children ages 4 and 5 will meet on Tuesday mornings during the month of October from 9:45-10:30 a.m. and the cost is $20 per person. more
