Byron-Bergen professional honored for community work

Maureen Calmes, K-12 School Social Worker for the Byron-Bergen Central School District, was honored at a breakfast for her efforts on behalf of the Genesee County Drug-Free Communities program.

Maryann Bowman, director of prevention for the Genesee/Orleans Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, made the presentation at the quarterly meeting of the Drug-Free Communities Coalition. She cited Calmes' work in the Byron-Bergen community as well as with the SafeHomes Program in LeRoy.

Calmes and several other community leaders were recognized for their ongoing support of the community's fight to reduce the incidence and prevalence of drug, alcohol and tobacco use by youth.
