Ranger volleyball returns three for 2005 season

The Spencerport Rangers Boys Volleyball varsity team, coached by Mike Zeman, returns three of their starters from 2004. The Rangers are led by a pair of juniors, setter Christian Woodard and outside hitter Steve Wood. Senior middle hitter Mike Pavone and right side hitter Matt Larson are also expected to have big seasons for the Rangers this year. Matt Larson and Ryan Hemm, both seniors, are the captains of the squad this season.

"We are working to build cohesion in a young squad," Coach Mike Zeman said. There are a lot of good teams in Division I and II, and it takes a lot of heart and teamwork to win in rally scoring."

The team has established itself in their division with a 4-0 record so far, winning matches against Schroeder, Irondequoit, East Irondequoit, and Brighton. The Rangers are 4-2 overall, losing two well fought matches against Gates Chili and Rush-Henrietta, both Division I schools.
The team will be home in the Ranger gym on October 11, 18, 21 and 26.

The team is sponsoring a chicken barbecue on Thursday, September 29. It is a drive through barbecue beginning at 3 p.m. and ending at 7 p.m. or when sold out. It will be located in the IGA parking lot, in the village of Spencerport. Dinners are $8.
