Scuba instruction offered at Hilton's aquatic center

Learn to Scuba dive and earn a NAUI World Wide Scuba Diver certification card at Hilton Schools' Aquatic Center this fall. Hilton Continuing Education is offering a five-session course on Saturdays, November 12, 19 and December 3, 10, 17 at Merton Williams School from noon to 4 p.m. The Aquatic Center is located at 200 School Lane, Hilton. The teacher, Rick Hann, is a certified NAUI Instructor.

The course includes the classroom, pool and open water training to meet all certification requirements as a scuba diver. Students should be comfortable in the water, but previous diving experience is not required. Only a bathing suit and towel and the $245 payment are required for the first pool session. Students provide their own mask, snorkel, fins and mouthpieces for subsequent sessions but should not purchase this equipment until after the first pool session. The instructor will provide all Scuba equipment necessary to complete the training program including tanks, regulator, gauges, weights, wet suits and air fills for all training activities including the pool and open water dives. Additionally, a kit is given to each student which includes the student folder, course textbook, workbook, dive tables, log book, instructional video, pen and NAUI decal.

The course fee includes the NAUI certification. It does not include admission or charter fees to dive sites for the open water sessions. Registration for the continuing education class is $35 which must be paid in advance. Hilton Golden Age Passes, for those over age 55 and HCSD residents, are not valid. Students must bring $245 to the first class for equipment rental. A discount of $30 for additional family members sharing a student kit is available.
