Willit goal paces Rangers

Senior captain Laura Willit scored two minutes into the second half to break a scoreless tie and give Spencerport a 1-0 victory over Hilton in girl's soccer.

In the 42nd minute, the Rangers' Stephanie Snyder pounced on a loose ball following a corner kick and arched a high pass that Willit headed into the upper left corner for the only goal of the game.

"We found feet and connected with our passes especially in the second half," said head coach Jamie Schneider. "We had several other chances to score but their keeper (Becca Ritchie) is one of the best in our division and made some nice saves."

In a game that featured both goalkeepers making sparkling saves, the Rangers had an early chance go unrewarded when Kacey Pratt put a shot off the crossbar in the 12th minute. In the 29th minute, the Cadets had their best chance of the first half when Melissa Luisi's shot forced a diving save by Spencerport keeper Andrea Kazmierski.

Eight minutes after the Rangers goal, the Cadets' Shelby Ritchie had her point blank shot blocked and, in the 56th minute, both Patty Nellis and Christina Ward had their consecutive shots knocked away.

Spencerport eighth-grader Brittany Kimmond, playing in just her fifth varsity game after being called up from JV, had a scoring chance in each half and set up yet another chance after coming off the bench.

The Rangers improved to 3-7-1 while Hilton dropped to 3-4-1.
