The runaway winning cake design, a unique basket of apples, was created by Ruth Madison of Hilton. The apples were made from fondant, a sugar paste that can be sculpted.


Apple Fest committee announces cake and pie winners

The first place prize of $100 for the adult division of the Hilton Apple Fest Apple Pie Contest was won by Loreen Appleton of Hilton. Second place of $50 went to Hilton resident Brandy Stewart. The third place prize of $25 was won by Judith Ras of Rochester.

The first place prize of $25 for the youth division was won by Kelly Comden of Hilton. Second place prize of $10 went to Bergen resident, Samantha Streeter.

The crust and filling of each pie were judged for appearance, texture and taste. Judging the adult apple pie contest was Paul Marvin, a life-long resident of the Hilton area; Bob Kirk, winning news director for Entercom Radio; Ann Kaminski and Karen Doran. For the youth division, the judges were Rachel Quetschenbach, a student at Merton Williams Middle School and Jared Kaminski, at QUEST Elementary School in Hilton.

Thanks were extended to the volunteers who helped with this contest, Jennifer Ott, Becky Hibbard, Mary Herring, Jan Lincoln and Sue Gallacher.

In the decorated cake contest, first place prize of $100 for the adult division was won by Ruth Madison, a resident of Hilton. She made a cake that looked like a realistic basket of apples. Second place of $50 was won by Missy Kelley of Rochester. Her cake was an apple with a slice of the apple on the plate, with a worm coming out of the standing apple stating "I Love NY Hilton Apple Fest".

The first place prize of $30 for the youth division was won by Jimmy Kyle of Rochester. His cake was a decorated apple on top of a cake with fall colored leaves.
