A beautiful fall morning on October 1 brought out 86 runners to compete in the 27th annual Apple Derby 5 Mile Run held in conjunction with Apple Fest weekend in Hilton. The certified course saw very competitive running with Alan Pogroszewski (30:24) finishing just ahead of a closing Tony Mastroberadino (30:34) and third place finisher Joe Haungs (30:45). Local runner Ann Messenger (32:26) was ninth overall and the first female to cross the finish line. This was her second consecutive victory and third overall being crowned race champion. Within the Roger Messenger Master division Joe Haungs and Patricia Pirnie (33:34) twelfth overall took home honors. Rick Furnal of Hilton Big M once again financed the $500 course record-breaking performance challenge.
