Brockport police officers to honor community members

A holiday appreciation dinner is scheduled to recognize and honor members of the Brockport Explorer post, SPARTAC members and individuals within the community who have supported activities within the Village of Brockport police department.

Sergeant Mark Cuzzupoli said the event was planned as a way to recognize those who have given of their time and talent to the department. "It's a much needed event," he said. "There are so many people out in the community who help us out."

The individuals and groups being honored were chosen by a committee, Cuzzupoli said.

Police Chief Daniel Varrenti said he was pleased that the members of the department were sponsoring the Brockport Police Department appreciation night "This will be a dinner put on by me and members of the police department for all those people who have contributed to the good of this village," he said. "Members of the police department will incur all the costs of this dinner."

Prior to the event, Cuzzupoli and Varrenti said the Explorers are holding a raffle of a 32 inch high definition television valued at $644. The winner will be announced during the dinner on November 4, they said.

Fifty percent of the money raised will go to the Explorer post and the other 50 percent will be used to purchase gifts for the residents at Lakeside's Biekirch Care Center. Cuzzupoli said that Kelly Lewis of State Farm Insurance in Brockport purchased the television and donated it to the Explorers for the raffle.

Tickets can be purchased for $5 for one ticket or three for $10 from any Explorer or by calling Cuzzupoli or Officer Steve Mesiti at the police department at 637-1020.
