Spencerport's energy savers

Through special programs the Spencerport Municipal Electric Franchise has acquired two energy efficient vehicles for use in and around the village. They purchased a Ford "hybrid" vehicle and a John Deere "E" (electric) Gator. Residents and customers will be seeing the two vehicles out and about participating in a variety of village operations. Jack Linder, superintendent of the electric department, said there could be substantial energy/feel savings realized by the department. Energy savings from each hybrid electric/gas vehicle is based on a hybrid vehicle averaging 51 miles per gallon in city driving as opposed to 19 miles per gallon of a gas powered vehicle. One kWh is the equivalent of .072 gallons of gasoline.
