Hamlin budget shows 1.87 percent tax increase

In a year in which fuel costs have skyrocketed, Hamlin taxpayers will be presented with a budget that appears down to earth, at a budget hearing November 3 at 7 p.m.

The proposed tax increase is 1.87 percent. The estimated tax rate is $6.17 per $1,000 of assessed value. The previous rate was $6.06 per $1,000.

Outgoing Supervisor Austin F. Warner III said town officials looked to trim costs wherever possible and were able to reduce total spending by $12,000 as compared to last year.

"I'm really happy with it. I think to be able to come in lower than we were last year is really great," Warner said.

The proposed budget is available on the town's web site and in the Town Clerk's Office.
