Senator earns statewide award for senior advocacy

Senator George Maziarz (62nd District) received an honor from the New York StateWide Senior Action Council (StateWide) and the Capital Area Consortium on Aging and Disability (CACAD). The award was presented at the organizations' Second Annual Honorary Benefit Reception, "Honoring Visionaries in the Fields of Aging and Disabilities."

Specifically, Maziarz was recognized for "legislative courage and leadership to create the Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council (MISCC) in support of older New Yorkers and persons with disabilities."

Maziarz was instrumental in the effort to create the Most Integrated Setting Coordinating Council during his tenure as chairman of the Senate Aging Committee. The MISCC was created through legislation in 2002 to explore and recommend ways to ensure New Yorkers with disabilities receive services in the most integrated settings appropriate to their individual needs. The Council's actions will be guided by the principles set forth under the Olmstead Decision to empower individuals with disabilities to live more independently.
