GCC hits enrollment record

Leader to retire

Genesee Community College enrolled 6,521 students during the fall 2005 semester, another all-time enrollment record, President Stuart Steiner reported to the Board of Trustees. Enrollment of full-time students topped the 3,000 mark for the first time, with 3,112 students enrolling, a 5.9 percent increase over fall 2004 enrollment. Enrollment of part-time students increased as well, with 3,409 students enrolling, up 9.1 percent from last fall's enrollment.

In other business, the board of trustees:

Heard Steiner report that space is becoming very tight at the Orleans Campus Center, Route 31 in Albion. Steiner asked that the board's buildings and grounds committee review the center's space needs and recommend ways to serve the growing number of Orleans County students who attend Genesee.

Heard that Dr. George W. Walker III, vice president for student services at Genesee Community College, will retire at the end of July 2006. He and his wife are residents of Pembroke.
