Watershed eligible for federal funding

The Oak Orchard Watershed, which includes parts of Niagara, Orleans, Genesee and Monroe counties has been selected as one of the nation's priority watersheds for the 2006 Conservation Security Program (CSP) and farmers/producers in the watershed may be eligible for federal money.

A meeting will be held Monday, December 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce, Dewitt Clinton Room (third floor), 121 North Main Street, Albion. Reservations are requested but not required.

CSP is a voluntary program that rewards farmers who are meeting the highest standards of conservation on their land.

Visit the programs section of the NRCS web page (www.nres.usda.gov) for information about CSP and other conservation programs. Program applications will be coordinated through the Orleans County NRCS office. Farmers throughout the watershed are encouraged to phone 585-589-5959 for reservations to attend one of the meetings.
