Learning about the community

The children at St. John Lutheran Preschool in Hamlin completed a unit of discovery about the services provided by members of the community. The Walker Fire Department visited the preschool for a presentation on fire safety. Firefighters Chuck and Shelly and their helpers demonstrated their firefighter gear and provided them with a tour of the fire truck. The firefighters reminded the children about "stop, drop and roll" and "get low and get out quick." They gave the children coloring books, stickers and a helmet. The parents of the preschool children were given a smoke alarm and a carbon monoxide detector. Sergeant Campanella visited the preschool to talk about personal safety, and showed what police officers wear and explained when to call 911. On October 31, the children visited Kirby's Farm Market and Mrs. Jennijohn from the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Hamlin came to the preschool to share a video about veterans and explain Veteran's Day.
