Clarendon to discuss church, water districts

A decision has to be made on the crumbling historic Universalist Church in the Town of Clarendon. The 200-year-old church has fallen into disrepair and is in danger of foreclosure by Orleans County for non-payment of taxes, Supervisor Richard Moy said.

"There are church groups that have expressed interest in the building," he said.

The meeting is to gauge public interest in whether the town should let it go for the taxes or take possession of it.

"We want to get input - if we take it over and fix it, then what do we do with the building?" Moy asked.

He said the owner of the building could still pay the taxes and redeem the building.

Following that meeting the town is also seeking input on residents still seeking water.

"We've covered about 75 percent of the residents so far," Moy said.

The meetings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 6 at the town hall.
