Blocker Buckets lead Blue Devils

Sophomore Joel Blocker scored six straight points on offensive rebound put-backs to lead Brockport to a 47-40 victory over Livonia in the season opener for both teams.

With the game tied at 37-37 and less than three minutes remaining, Blocker gave the Blue Devils a two-point lead. After the Bulldogs sank a three-pointer to take a one-point advantage, Blocker put his team ahead for good with another basket and followed with his third of the quarter with just 23 seconds left in regulation. Senior guard Justin Worboys calmly sank all four of his free throws at the end of the game to clinch the victory.

The Blue Devils started the game by jumping out to a seven-point lead thanks to numerous steals by the guard tandem of Worboys and Ryan Werner, who combined for ten steals in the game.

The Brockport lead increased to ten points in the third quarter before a fourth-quarter scoring drought of almost six minutes allowed Livonia to get back in the game.

Worboys led the team with 16 points. Blocker finished with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Jake Russell had nine points and 10 rebounds. Werner chipped in six points.

Brockport begins a new year after losing All-Greater Rochester selections Anthony Rogers and Tyler Mouton to graduation. Rogers is now playing at SUNY Albany and Mouton at Houghton College. They lost to Churchville-Chili in the sectional quarterfinals last season after finishing 13-6.
