Saints sweep to first win

Sophomore Rebecca DeHority served 10 aces, just two short of the school record, as Churchville-Chili swept Pittsford-Mendon 25-14, 25-8, 25-20 in a high school girl's volleyball season opener.
In the first game, the Saints led by eight before Mendon came out of a timeout with a 10-7 run to close the gap to four. The Saints then reeled off the final seven points, including a pair of kills by Carley Youngman, to seal the win.

After a relatively easy second game victory, the third was a see-saw battle that featured nine lead changes and was tied at 18-18. After several Mendon errors, DeHority scored on an over-the-shoulder kill just inside the line and Janelle Mayback had her serve hit the top of the net and drop in for the final two points.

DeHority added 11 assists to her ten aces. Youngman led with seven kills to go with six digs and Erin Leonard led with seven digs and dished out nine assists. Mayback, playing in just the third game, had five digs.

The Saints finished last season second in the league at 12-8 before losing in the sectional semi-finals to Penfield.
