Local woman nominated for Athena award

For more than 20 years, the Women's Council has sponsored the Athena Award and this year, Gay Lenhard, Town of Ogden supervisor, is one of the 22 nominees.

Helen Moore, president of Spencerport Chamber of Commerce, nominated Lenhard for the honor.

"When we were thinking of someone we could nominate from this area, Gay's name came up," Moore said. "She runs the town and that's a big business, and she does a lot of volunteer work in the community."

In her nomination of Lenhard for the Athena Award, Moore wrote, "There is a remarkable woman in Spencerport deserving and highly qualified for recognition by the Women's Council ... Lenhard is a devoted individual who lives, works and has contributed greatly, both professionally and personally, in making the community better and making women and families stronger."

Moore said Lenhard's past 24 years of service and dedication to the community made it a privilege to nominate her for the award. "She has always shown leadership in community affairs and is a role model for others," Moore said.

Lenhard said she was overwhelmed when it was announced at a Chamber function that she had been nominated.
