Two honored for Boy Scout achievements

Two Byron-Bergen High School seniors have attained the Eagle Scout Award. This award represents the highest level of achievement in skill, service and leadership in the Boy Scouts of America Program. Jack Ellsworth and James Eick from Bergen Troop 31 earned the rank.

Along with many volunteer activities, leadership positions and numerous merit badges, each scout organized and carried out a community service project which was their final step toward the Eagle Award. Ellsworth facilitated the building of two bridges in the Bergen Swamp which helped minimize the impact of visitors to the ecosystem, and provide the flow of streams to be undisturbed. Eick mapped out existing gravesites at a local cemetery and recorded data. This provided an accurate account of very old cemetery records.

They were presented their Eagle Scout Awards at a ceremony on October 9 at the United Methodist Church in Bergen.
