Spencerport teachers group honored for community service

At the recent United Way Labor Recognition Dinner, the Spencerport Teachers Association (STA) was recognized for its community service efforts.

Members donate generously to an annual scholarship drive, support sports teams and boosters and the Senior Bash, according to STA President Leslie Stein. This is the STA's third community service award, the previous two were from the New York State United Teachers. "Our teachers are a part of this community and we work to invest in its future in so many ways," Stein said.

Spencerport Superintendent Mary Anne Kermis congratulated members, saying, "being honored three times shows the depth of their commitment and interest in working with our school community."

STA members also participate in the annual Breast Cancer Walk, sponsor lunch for students attending the annual "Think About Teaching Day," contribute to "Toys for Tots," the local Rotary club and organize an annual volleyball tournament that benefits the United Way/Red Cross campaign.
