Stroke fundraiser includes marathon run

An effort to raise donations for the American Stroke Association hit its stride with a successful "jail and bail" telephone fundraising event on December 14.

Spencerport Central School's Director of Transportation Michael Proukou, Cosgrove Middle School Principal Michael Canny and Wilson High School Assistant Principal Laurie Boughter gave up their lunch hours to hit the phones.

Through the generosity of those called, $2,324 was raised for the American Stroke Association. Two Spencerport runners will run a marathon in January at Walt Disney World, where the money will be donated. Spencerport School Board member Rebecca Daniels and fellow runner Teri Kopp are training now for the long run.

Daniels will run the 26-mile race in memory of her father, John Passarell, a World War II veteran, who she calls a "stroke hero." Passarell died in 2001, a few weeks after he suffered a stroke. Daniels will also run in honor of any other "stroke heroes" in the community. Donations may still be made in their name through this website: http://rochesterttes.kintera.org/faf.
