Seventh-grader Kevin Bentley won a kayak in a drawing through the America Recycles program.

Students pledge to recycle

Students at Brockport's middle school and high school pledged to recycle and buy recycled products.

They participated in the America Recycles 2005 program sponsored by Kodak, Wegmans, Perry's ice cream, New York State America Recycles and the New York State Department for Environmental Conservation. The schools were recognized at the New York State Recycling Conference.

The students' commitment to recycle won both schools a school-wide ice cream party and various prizes. At the middle school, students learned about recycling during science class. During their free time, students went to classrooms and offices to pick up recycled materials from the blue boxes. In two separate drawings, Brockport students won prizes. Eleventh-grader Andrew Brannan won a trip for four to Disney World and seventh-grader Kevin Bentley won a kayak made out of recycled materials. Other prizes included cameras and travel coffee mugs.
