Player scores to lead Bees

Freshman Mary Cocking scored six of her game-high 13 points in the second quarter as Byron-Bergen outscored Holley 12-5 on their way to a 47-16 girl's basketball victory.

The Bees held the Hawks to just three points in the first quarter to run out to a 12-3 lead. Two of Holley's points came on a steal and lay-up by Ashley Colby, who went on to lead the team with nine points.

Alyssa D'Errico knocked down two three-pointers in the third quarter and both teams combined for just 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Cocking, just rounding into basketball shape after missing the early part of the year with a concussion, also hauled down a game-high 14 rebounds for the Bees. D'Errico finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Mandy Krol chipped in six points, Katy Mullen had seven assists and Jessica Smith added eight rebounds for Byron-Bergen, who improved to 5-3.

Aside from Colby, Megan Hendel added five points for the Hawks, who lost their eighth straight after a season-opening win over Northstar Academy.
