The Medical Staff of Lakeside Memorial Hospital presented the 2005 Excellence in Nursing Awards at its annual holiday dinner meeting. JoAnn Pellegrino, RN Surgical Services, and Ellen Robinson, RN Emergency Department, were this year's recipients.

Each year the medical staff selects two nurses to receive this award. The award is based on clinical judgment, compassion in patient care, commitment to Lakeside Memorial Hospital, commitment to high quality patient care and interpersonal relationships with peers, other staff and physicians.

JoAnn Pellegrino has been employed at Lakeside since 2000. She resides in Brockport. "JoAnn is a valuable member of Lakeside's surgical nursing team. Her skills in the operating room and professional demeanor are appreciated by the surgeons. Her compassionate and caring attitude is comforting to our patients," stated Dr. Hovaness H. Maronian, Chief of Surgery.

Ellen Robinson lives in Kendall and has been with Lakeside since 1993. "As a triage nurse in the Emergency Department, Ellen is expert in emergency nursing. She performs thorough patient evaluations, ensures patient comfort and takes the time to explain the process to patients. Ellen goes above and beyond the call of duty, taking the initiative to assist whenever or where ever needed," according to Dr. Manmadbarao Kasaraneni, Chief of Emergency Medicine.

The recipients were presented with a plaque and a monetary gift. Their names are also added to the special Excellence in Nursing Award plaque listing recipients which is displayed in the hospital.
