Newsmakers for the week of

Momchil Kyurkchiev, a SUNY Brockport junior, placed fifth in the final ranking at the 2005 undergraduate programming contest on October 15. The competition was held at Iona College as part of the 21st Annual Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges Eastern Conference. The contest required teams of students to solve six computer programming problems within a three-hour period. The team that solved the most problems correctly, in the shortest amount of time, won the contest. Though Kyurkchiev's competitors were all three-student teams, he managed to solve two problems in a total of 183 minutes by himself.

Kyurkchiev is president of the Mathematics Club on campus and is currently researching wireless networks, with plans of publishing the results at conferences this spring.


John Erbe of Hilton was named chapter development vice president of the Chorus of the Genesee.


Alexandra Liccione, daughter of Tony and Patty Liccione of Hamlin, and a 2004 graduate of Brockport High School, was named to the dean's list for the fall term at St. John Fisher College.


Megan E. Bush of Fredericksburg, Virginia, graduated from Niagara University in May with a master's degree in elementary and special education. She is a first grade teacher at Kate Waller Barrett Elementary, Stafford County, Virginia, and is an assistant director of children's theatre at the school.

Bush is the daughter of Perry and Luise Bush of Hamlin and a 1999 Brockport High School graduate.


Brian C. Hueser, a 2005 graduate of Brockport High School who is attending RIT, was awarded the RIT Presidential scholarship and the U. S. Air Force ROTC scholarship. He attained a private pilot's license in September 2005 through Ledgedale Flight Training in Brockport. He is the son of Roger and Linda Hueser of Hamlin.


Air Force Airman 1st Class Yvonne N. Greco has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

She is the daughter of Becky Greco of Rochester and granddaughter of Loretta Greco of Batavia.

The airman is a 2005 graduate of Spencerport High School.
