Bill Jacoutot

Jacoutot joins elite coaches

Spencerport varsity wrestling coach Bill Jacoutot was on the verge of becoming just the fifth in Section V history with 300 career wins and moving into the top 15 in New York state with a victory over Webster Schroeder February 1.

Jacoutot began coaching at Spencerport during the 1981-82 season after three seasons at Pembroke, one as an assistant at the University of Buffalo and one year as an assistant at Sweet Home High School in Buffalo. His team finished his first Rangers campaign with a 10-5 record and hasn't lost more than three matches in a season since.

In reaching the elite 300-club, Jacoutot joins SUNY Brockport grads Art Connorton from Irondequoit and John Grillo from Holley, Bob Gatery from LeRoy and current Section Five leader Dan Quinn from East Rochester. He also moves into the top-15 for all-time coaching wins in New York state.

This season the Rangers are ranked fifth in the state and second in Section V behind Wayne Central. The team won the Clayton Barnard Tournament in Hilton and the Monroe County Championships. Bryan Bourne is the only wrestler ranked - currently 7th in New York at 152 lbs. During his career with Spencerport, Jacoutot has led his teams to 25 Section V titles, three state team titles (2001, 2002, 2004) and has coached nine individual state champions.

The Rangers will host the Section V Class AA wrestling tournament on February 10 and 11.
