Financial rewards for housing
grants await good citizens at GCC

In an ongoing effort to attract exemplary students to its residence life facility, Genesee Community College is offering College Village Citizenship Scholarships to a wide array of young student leaders who are involved in and supporters of their hometown communities. From Eagle Scouts to 4-H Ambassadors, church members to camp counselors, college officials hope to award 20 or more annual Citizenship Scholarships of $1,000 each with a maximum of two scholarships per high school.

The scholarship is open to incoming freshmen directly out of high school and also to non-traditional aged students who wish to live in quality student housing while studying at Genesee.

The Honors Program, the President's Program for Students, the RA or Resident Assistant program, and many other opportunities exist to recognize and support leadership abilities. GCC officials say they not only hope to encourage and help develop these qualities, but also support these students through the Citizenship Scholarship.

High school students and those entering college later in life, from New York and neighboring states, are eligible to be nominated. Usually, students are nominated by a teacher, coach, fellow church member, or by someone familiar with the student's citizenship qualities.

College Village Citizenship Scholarship nomination forms are available online at http://www.genesee.edu/depts/admissions/financial/scholarships.cfm or by calling the financial aid office at 585-345-6900. March 3 is the deadline for nominations.
