Free parent education programs begin March 9

The Continuing University for Parents, a three-part parenting series "Being In-Charge and In-Love" by Dr. Gil Gockley and Tanya Tihansky Gockley will be sponsored by the Brockport Central School District and PTSA.

Thursday, March 9: Part I: "Teaching and Modeling the Behaviors and Value We Want from Others." This workshop focuses on what and how to teach and model to children, such as universal values, the constructive use of feelings, basic communication skills and a few vital life insights and social skills.

Thursday, March 23: Part 2: "Discipline with Calmness and Dignity." Parents will learn a four-stage discipline approach: (1) Teach and Model, (2) Listen and Talk, (3) Problem-solve, Conflict-solve and administer consequences, and (4) Seek Help.

Thursday, April 6: Part 3: "Capture the Good." Parents will learn how to find and focus on the good, on appreciations and gratitude, on positive thinking and on the beauty, awe and wonder of life. Family time must include fun times, work times and life instruction times.

All programs will be held in the A. D. Oliver Middle School, 40 Allen Street, Brockport in Room 153 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. These programs are free and open to the public; no registration is required.
