Leukemia dance marathon planned

Students will dance 12 hours from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. in this year's Leukemia dance marathon scheduled for March 17 and 18 to raise money for the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department.

The dance began in 1974 by Brockport High School seniors Linda and Marcia Duff who wanted to do something to help Daniel T. Wheat, who was diagnosed with leukemia. Daniel was one of a set of nine-month-old twin sons of then Dean of Students Carl Wheat and his wife Sharon. Over the years, the dance has raised more than $260,000 for the treatment of local children and cancer research. Today, the marathon is the longest-running fundraising event for the Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.
