A last look
The Stagecoach Inn, located on the northeast corner of Rt. 259 and Rt. 33, is scheduled to be torn down. In its infancy, the building, known then as the Stagecoach Inn, was a popular stop for weary travelers on their way to and from Rochester and Buffalo. Then in 1867, Benjamin Roberts, the founder of the present Roberts Welseyan College, purchased the building to house his fledgling academic institution. more

Brockport discussing trash at public hearing
A proposal set forth by Village of Brockport Trustee David Wagenhauser to look at various ways to deal with the residents' trash will be the subject of a public hearing Monday, March 6. This will be the second hearing on the topic. more

Build a roller coaster this winter for
summer display at Newman Riga Library

Community donates to bell ringers

Hilton project photographing historic barns
The Hilton Historic Barn Project, a Hilton Apple Fest committee, is in the process of putting together a display of photographs for the September 30-October 1 festival, which will feature the "Historic Barns of Hilton." There are more than 170 barns in Parma which are being photographed and displayed. more

Maple syrup production begins

Riga Mill Seat Landfill project would make watts from waste
A proposed new building on the Mill Seat Landfill site in Riga would house the equipment necessary to generate electric power from gas created in the decomposition of landfilled materials. more

Sock collection yields over 300 pair
Homeschooler Samantha Stewart exceeded her goal of collecting 300 pairs of tube socks and collected close to 320 pairs for her community service project, Operation: Socks from Sam. Stewart is a 10th grader who, as part of her schooling curriculum, has to participate in a community service. more

Work progresses on new Ogden pizzeria

Hilton Central School District will hold its kindergarten registration in March. Parents of children whose fifth birthday falls on or before December 1, 2006 may enroll their children in Hilton's Full-Day Kindergarten Program. Hilton High School 28-member Varsity Cheerleading squad coached by Laurie Miller placed first in the "Level 4 Extra-Large Squad" category against nine squads from New York, Florida, and Rhode Island in the Contest of Champions February 25. more

Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge accepting
spring turkey hunting application
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in Genesee and Orleans Counties is accepting applications for spring turkey hunting. The refuge uses a random drawing to fill the 50 turkey hunting permits available. Hunters must complete an application form. more

Special Youth Turkey Hunting Day applications available
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in Alabama is accepting applications for the Youth Turkey Hunt Program. The first Sunday of the spring turkey hunting season, May 7, is set aside as a youth turkey hunting day on the refuge. Any licensed junior hunter between the ages of 12-17 years may apply. more

Sophomore Brittany Williams scored 20 points, including a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line, to lead Churchville-Chili's girl's basketball team to a 49-46 overtime victory over fifth-ranked Edison Tech and a Class AAA sectional semi-final game with top seeded Rush-Henrietta. more
