Build a roller coaster this winter for
summer display at Newman Riga Library

The Newman Riga Library is gearing up for its summer reading program, Reading Roller Coaster, and staffers have a creative way to generate interest in the upcoming events. They are inviting patrons to participate in creating the theme by engineering their own roller coaster. It might be a marble chute, a facsimile of a real coaster, or any other imaginative rendering. The reading game begins July 6 and runs through August 10.

Individuals or groups such as scouts and service organizations are encouraged to enter a coaster. Designs can be no larger than 28"H x 24"W x 10"D and must be built and assembled off site and carried into the library and showcased above bookshelves. Participants need to register by May 1 to allow the library staff to hold a display space for all the entries. The coasters will be on display for the duration of the Summer Reading game, beginning July 6 and ending August 10. Entries must be in place by June 26.

Participants are reminded that all entries will be viewed from below, not at eye level. They will not be handled by anyone and they do not have to have movable parts. The library staff suggests the coaster construction project as a good winter project.

Registration forms are available at the library or by emailing newmanriga@hotmail.com. Visit www.libraryweb.org/riga for details or call 293-2009.
