Churchville pianist receives award

Molly Fillion, daughter of Kenn and Terry Fillion of Churchville, will be awarded the Howard Hanson Certificate of Merit at the Howard Hanson Winner's Recital Sunday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Wilmot Hall, Nazareth College Arts Center.

Fillion, a senior at Churchville-Chili High School, studies piano with Sigrid Britton. For twelve consecutive years, Fillion has received superior ratings (four Gold Cups) from the National Federation of Music Clubs Festival. She enjoys singing in the Concert Choir at her school and participated in Area All-State choir. She was a finalist in the Junior of the Year competition, received a National Merit Letter of Commendation, and is president of the National Honor Society at her school. She is very active in her church and youth group ministries.

The Rochester Piano Teachers' Guild established the annual Howard Hanson Awards to honor graduating high school senior pianists from the Greater Rochester area who exhibit meritorious musicianship in the performance of classical music.
