Riga discussing wind towers

Being proactive, rather than reactive, is the reason behind the Town of Riga's proposed moratorium on wind energy deriving towers and transmissions facilities law. "If you aren't being proactive then you can't have a debate after the facts," Riga Supervisor Pamela Moore said.

The moratorium will give the town time to research the benefits and detriments of wind towers before proceeding. Moore said there was at least one resident who was actively pursuing a wind tower application within the town and that at least three others have expressed a desire to utilize the technology. "We need to weigh pros and cons and the moratorium is our first step in fact-finding before we move forward," she said.

The public hearing on the moratorium is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14 at 7:05 p.m. at the Riga Town Hall.
