4-H'ers tour the Capitol

A delegation representing thousands of 4-H members in New York state traveled to Albany March 6 and 7 for the 71st annual 4-H Capitol Days event. One hundred thirty teens attended.

The 4-H members, volunteer leaders and staff met with state government officials, members of the court system and officials from a variety of state agencies. They also observed the floor of the state legislature and had the opportunity to talk with their representatives. Assembly members discussed the legislative process with the 4-H'ers. The participants also learned about speaking to their legislators and participated in a quiz bowl that tested their knowledge about state government and the budget process.

Delegates learned about career opportunities in government as they toured state agencies, participated in discussions and visited with legislators. They toured the capitol and visited the Corning Tower and State Museum.

Reed Heidemann of Kendall and Heidi Napoleon of Brockport represented Orleans County 4-H at this year's Capitol Days event. They earned the opportunity to represent Orleans County on the basis of their involvement with Orleans County 4-H and the leadership roles they have engaged in. Senator Maziarz presented them with citations for their involvement in 4-H and in the 4-H Capitol Days event.
