Ogden Rec is looking for the best pizza in town

On Saturday, April 1, the Town of Ogden Parks and Recreation Department will present the "Popular Pizza Poll." The event will be held in the Cosgrove Middle School cafeteria and will begin at 1 p.m. Tickets are $7/person and can be purchased at the Ogden Community Center. There will be no tickets sold at the event and participants must pre-register by Thursday, March 30.

To be invited into the contest, a pizza place has to be located in the Town of Ogden. Invitations have been extended to Krony's, Pontillo's, Tom and Nancy's, Cam's, Westside Pizza and Cordello's.

At 1 p.m. pizzas will be delivered. Once the pizzas arrive, they will become anonymous. Registered participants will receive a packet of colored tickets that will correspond with a pizza from each of the pizza vendors. People will have the opportunity to exchange one ticket at a time for a piece of pizza. Along with pizza tickets, a scoring sheet will be provided to allow participants to rate each slice of pizza. This process will continue until a participant has sampled a piece of pizza from all of the entries. At the end of the contest, all of the ballots will be tallied and a champion will be declared.

This program has been held in the Town of Perinton for 16 years and has routinely had 240+ people attend each year. Glynne Schultz, an Ogden resident, heard about the Perinton program in the newspaper and thought it was a great idea. She contacted the Ogden Parks and Recreation Department and asked if the same program could be done here. Schultz, and Ogden Parks and Recreation Director Eric Bacon, traveled to Perinton to see its program. They decided to try the same thing in Ogden. Both Schultz and Bacon are excited about the new program. Bacon said, "The pizza places have been enthusiastic about the idea and I hope the residents will be excited as well. Perinton's program was awesome and I think ours will be just as good."

The winner will be announced the day of the event and results will be posted on the Recreation page of the town's website at www.ogdenny.com.
