Assemblyman-elect Steve Hawley
sworn-in during Albany ceremony

Assemblyman elect Stephen M. Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) was sworn-in as a Member of the Assembly in a ceremony held at the State Capitol on March 6.

Hawley was elected in the Special Election held February 28 to fill the seat vacated by former Assemblyman Charlie Nesbitt, who was appointed by Governor George Pataki to serve as president and commissioner of the New York State Division of Tax Appeals & Tax Appeals Tribunal.

A small businessman and former member of the Genesee County Legislature, Hawley follows in the footsteps of his father, R. Stephen Hawley, who served in the New York State Assembly from 1984-1990.

"I said from the beginning of our grassroots campaign that my top priorities would be providing real property tax relief for homeowners and improving Western New York's economy. I will follow through on these goals and proudly lead the fight for lower property taxes and a better economic climate for the 139th Assembly District, along with our entire state. Now the real work begins - I'm truly looking forward to doing the job I was elected to do - meeting the important needs of our community," Hawley said in a press release.
