C-C teacher earns national recognition

Carol Pitkin, instrumental music teacher and seventh-grade band director at Churchville-Chili Junior High, has received this year's National Alumnae Leadership Award from Sigma Alpha Iota, the national music fraternity for women. The award is given for outstanding or extraordinary service at the national and local level of the fraternity.

Pitkin, in her 32nd year of teaching at Churchville, has been involved in SAI since joining while in college and serves the organization in several ways. She is the SAI National Audio Visual Director, as well as treasurer for the Rochester Alumnae Chapter. In addition to directing the seventh-grade band, Pitkin teaches all of Churchville's flute and double reed students grades 7 through 12.
