Arc of Orleans observes Developmental
Disabilities Awareness Month

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in New York and The Arc of Orleans County is joining together with other NYSARC chapters to increase understanding of the abilities and contributions made by people with developmental disabilities and mental retardation.

It is estimated that more than seven million Americans have mental retardation. Once isolated and ignored, people with developmental disabilities now have the opportunity to attend integrated classrooms in schools, and adults hold responsible jobs, serve as volunteers, and live productive lives in the community. The Arc of Orleans County works to make sure that the people served are able to accomplish their dreams, whether it be attending school, working at a job, volunteering for a cause, living in their own apartment, or going away to camp; things many people take for granted.

The Arc of Orleans County's Annual Appeal is now underway. For information call 589-5516 ext. 227 or 229.
