Spencerport schools' Family Support Center
offers "Parent University"

The Spencerport Central School District Family Support Center will offer a Parent University this spring and next fall. Spring sessions feature three topics relevant to students and families. The sessions provide parents with an opportunity to learn from and support each other, according to organizers.

What to Do When Your Child Feels Blue: Warning Signs of Depression
Wednesday, March 22, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Cosgrove Middle School, Room 105.
Family Support Center Director, Dave Seaburn, PhD., will present the common signs of depression and risk for suicide among children and adolescents. Learn what parents should watch for and how to help children when these signs emerge

What's a Parent Supposed to Do? Alcohol, Drugs and Sex
Wednesday, April 26, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Cosgrove Middle School, Room 105.
Family Support Center Prevention Coordinator Pam Robinson will discuss with parents the common pressures contributing to teen drug and alcohol use and early sexual experimentation. Parents will leave with strategies for how to talk with their children about these important issues

"No, I Don't Wanna!" Parenting Your Head Strong Child
Wednesday, May 24, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Cosgrove Middle School, Room 105.
Dave Seaburn and Pam Robinson focus on children who may be oppositional or defiant with their parents and others. Parents will receive specific strategies to implement at home.
