Ogden appoints new fire marshal

Jim McKinney has been on the job for a little more than a month and said he is still making the rounds of introducing himself to town residents and working with town officials.

"I'm trying to carry on the tradition of service that Dick McQuilkin (former fire marshal) started," he said.

McKinney worked for 32 years as a firefighter in the City of Rochester before retiring. Part of his responsibilities as a fire fighter involved inspections, so he was able to carry that experience and training with him to his new position with Ogden.

A lifelong resident who has served on the village board, and whose father was mayor, said it's nice to be working in a community where he knows most of the people.

Town of Ogden Supervisor Gay Lenhard said the town board was thrilled to have McKinney on board. "He has a wealth of experience which he brings to our town and the residents," she said.

"New York state requires periodic inspections and the obligation to complete those falls on the town and that's where I come in," he said.

Lenhard said McKinney would be developing software to help track inspections.
